There is a packed schedule in Limerick Junior soccer this weekend as the clubs attempt to catch up after weeks of postponments due to poor weather conditions. The Lawson Cup commands the most focus as the first round gets underway two weeks later than usual. There are also four games in the PJ Matthews Premier League as the premier division clubs do not enter the competition until the next round. New Limerick manager Tommy Barrett will be officially unveiled at the University of Limerick on Wednesday afternoon. Furthermore, the new boss will announce the details of his first signing as the club’s manager which will be a welcome boost to the squad. It will be the 15th senior player to agree terms with the club for the new season. Limerick FC will officially begin their 2018 season with a pre-season match against first division side Galway United this coming Saturday January 21st at the University of Limerick (kick-off 6.30pm). It will be new manager Tommy Barrett’s first chance to see the players at his disposal although he will be aware of many due to his time as manager of the under 19’s team. Due to inclement weather, the majority of junior soccer fixtures in Limerick were wiped out last weekend. There were only a few fixtures remaining throughout the city. The FAI Cup games involving Pike Rovers, Regional United and Coonagh United and the PJ Matthews Premier League game between Aisling Annacotty and Ballynanty Rovers all survived the conditions. Limerick FC have unveiled the club’s under 19s manager Tommy Barrett as the new manager of the senior team for the upcoming Airtricity League Premier Division season. The announcement was made following the departure of Neil McDonald over a week ago. Barrett is an internal appointment as he has been in charge of the club’s under 19 team for the past three seasons.
