Clean sweep of wins for Limerick sides in UBL action

It was five from five as Limerick clubs all recorded Ulster Bank League wins on Saturday.

Young Munster recorded their second win of the campaign to move to 7th in the table courtesy of a 20-19 victory over Munster rivals Cork Constitution in Temple Hill.

UBL 1A Table

The win was claimed through the boot of Shane Airey who kicked a last minute penalty to edge them back into a lead that they would not surrender. Scorers on the day for Munster’s were Ben Kilkenny, Daniel Hurley and James O’Connor with tries while Airey kicked a conversation and a penalty.

An impressive UCD side made the trip to Dooradoyle to take on Garryowen but the light blues ran out 27-20 victors to remain third in the table.

Garryowen’s win was made all the more impressive for the fact that they played almost an hour of the game with 14 players after prop Andrew Keating was red carded in the first half.

Scores came via two David Johnston tries while Neil Cronin landed a conversion and five penalties for a personal haul of 17 points.

In division 1B on Friday night, it was a big derby fixture as Shannon defeated UL-Bohemian 27-22 at Thomond Park to remain top of pile with five wins from five and two points ahead of Banbridge. Tom Hayes’ side look to have taken control of the division and if they continue their current progression, look likely to make the long awaited return to 1A next season.

For their part Bohs have struggled this season with just one win from five and sit in 8th position with seven points.

UBL 1B Table

In Division 2B Old Crescent made light work of City of Derry with a 54-21 victory on the road up north. It was Crescent’s fifth win on the bounce and they sit top of the table and two points ahead of Skerries.

Crescent led 26-7 at the break with the bonus point also secured courtesy of tries from Gary Fitzgerald, Brian Tuohy, Jack O’Neill and Larry Hanly.

Further second half tries from Hanly, Tuohy, Ronan McKenna and Val McDermott completed their 8 try rout.

UBL 2C Table

In 2C, Bruff eked out a narrow 10-8 win over Seapoint at Kilballyowen to move up to 2nd in the table.

Thomond jumped up to third in the 2C table following an excellent 28-23 win away win in Midleton with the Limerick side also picking up a precious bonus point.
