Earls and Mathewson doubts for Gloucester visit

Munster could be without the services of both Keith Earls and Alby Mathewson for this Saturday’s Heineken Champions Cup clash with Gloucester at Thomond Park.

Earls tweaked his hamstring in the warm up before Munster’s game with Exeter Chiefs last weekend and underwent a scan on the injury last Monday.

Mathewson picked up a knee injury in Munster’s defeat to Leinster but is rated as 50/50 for the province’s second Champions Cup game of their campaign.

Sammy Arnold suffered a throat injury after coming off the bench in the second half against Exeter and was observed overnight in hospital.

He has been discharged and will be assessed by the medical department to determine availability for this weekend, as will John Ryan who picked up an ankle problem.

In other injury news, Dave O’Callaghan will have to see a specialist to determine further treatment to a foot problem that he suffered in Munster A’s defeat to Leinster A in the Celtic Cup.

The following are progressing with rehabilitation: Liam O’Connor (knee), Conor Oliver (toe), Jack O’Donoghue (knee), Conor Murray (neck), James Hart (knee), Alby Mathewson (knee), Chris Farrell (knee), Ronan O’Mahony (ankle), Calvin Nash (ankle).
