Joey Carbery reportedly closing in on move to Munster

Joey Carbery is close to a move to Munster ahead of next season as reported by the Irish Independent’s Rúaidhrí O’Connor.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is expected to address the matter at his first press conference since the Six Nations later today, however the move may not be confirmed until after the squad travels to Australia.

Carbery has been used predominantly as a fullback for Leinster, however Schmidt has been pushing for the Clontarf club man to get more game time under his belt at 10.

The 22-year-old was said to be unmoved by the prospect of moving up north to Ulster to replace Paddy Jackson and now seems as though he has settled on linking up with Johann van Graan’s Munster.

The article which can be found here reads that Carbery met with van Graan last week to discuss a potential move and it looks like the prospect of playing alongside Conor Murray and working under Felix Jones may have been enough to win over the young talent.

Carbery’s arrival, as well as the arrival of highly rated dynamic forward Tadhg Beirne is sure to have Munster fans salivating as the province look to acquire the final pieces for another European push next season.

The move could, however, leave some of Munster’s four Irish qualified out-halve’s in limbo with Ian Keatley, Tyler Bleyendaal, JJ Hanrahan and Bill Johnston all still on the books at the province.
