Limerick Celtics Under 14 Girls Win National Invitational Tournament

Celtics under 14 girls won their first title of the year in LIT last Sunday with some stellar individual and team performances on the day.

Issey Leahy, Jodie Waite, Anna Odufuwa and Emily Dickinson top scored on the day for the Limerick girls but had backup from Sophie Ryan, Nia McInerney, Lucey Devoy, Issabelle Micks, Alexia McInerney, Roisin Ryan and Monica Sheehan.

An overtime win over Rathmore opened the day for Celtics.

Having trailed the Kerry side by 12 points Celtics hit back with some strong steals and scores to tie the game at full time.

Overtime had the crowd on the edge of their seats as both teams traded basket for basket before Issey Leahy got a steal and Nia McInerney hit a crucial shot to give Celtics an overtime win.

Celtics and Tullamore also went basket for basket for the majority of the game before the Limerick girls pulled away to get another win against a strong Offaly side.

The Limerick side then had a convincing win over Portlaoise Panthers and finished off their first tournament of the campaign with three wins – taking home their first title of the season.
