LISTEN: John Ryan looking for replicate second half performance against Antrim

The Limerick ladies football team welcome Antrim to Askeaton this Saturday in Round 2 of the Lidl National League. Last weekend Limerick secured a draw against Carlow overturning a six point deficit at half time to earn a share of the spoils.

We caught up with manager John Ryan who was happy with the second half performance last weekend and want’s his side to pick up where they left off this weekend.

“The big thing is the way the girls set up… They dug massively deep in the second half. They only had one point from a free on the board in the first half and they came back and rallied. Not alone did they draw the game but they kept Carlow scoreless in the second half.”

“We were very slow to start, there were a lot of nerves there. But when we got going in the second half, each and every one of them died on their backs and they worked so hard. Really, they fought for every ball, they worked it in and got the scores.”

“It was definitely a point won, not a point lost.”

This weekend’s opponents Antrim only picked up two wins in Division 4 last year, but their campaign off to a bright start this year with a 3-10 to 2-9 victory away to Fermanagh. Speaking about the oppposition side, Ryan isn’t taking anything for granted.

“Well you know Northern football is very intense. They won last week and they will be coming to have a right cut off us. We have to start the game at throw in, not at half time like we did last week.

We don’t really know an awful lot about Antrim. We’ve looked at their results  They hadn’t a great year last year, a lot of things went wrong but I think they are back on track this year.”

“We’ll be hoping that we can perform here thats the main thing here when we’re building a squad and we can’t ask anything more from the players.”
