Munster depart for South African leg of Pro14 fixtures

After a bruising and battering encounter against French heavyweights RC Toulon on Saturday, the squad of 23 will depart for South Africa on Monday.

Joining the 23 will be Brian Scott, Dave O’Callaghan, Conor Oliver, Dan Goggin and academy player Calvin Nash.

The 28-man squad plus team management will travel from Dublin to Cape Town, via Dubai, tomorrow. The group will then base themselves in Cape Town, and travel to George and Bloemfontein for their respective Guinness PRO14 encounters against Southern Kings and Cheetahs.

For the return journey the province will depart from Johannesburg to arrive in Dublin on Sunday April 15.

On the injury front, Tommy O’Donnell underwent surgery for the shoulder injury he sustained against Scarlets in round 18. The flanker has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and joins a significant rehabilitation list, with Keith Earls, Tyler Bleyendaal, Duncan Williams, Chris Cloete, Jaco Taute and Chris Farrell already sidelined.

Following the British and Irish Cup quarter-final against Leinster A on Friday, hooker Kevin O’Byrne will require further medical review for a hip injury he sustained in the first half.

Squad for South Africa: Simon Zebo, Andrew Conway, Alex Wootton, Darren Sweetnam, Calvin Nash, Sammy Arnold, Rory Scannell, Dan Goggin, Ian Keatley, JJ Hanrahan, Conor Murray, James Hart, Dave Kilcoyne, James Cronin, Stephen Archer, John Ryan, Brian Scott, Rhys Marshall, Niall Scannell, Billy Holland, Jean Kleyn, Gerbrandt Grobler, Peter O’Mahony, Jack O’ Donoghue, Dave O’Callaghan, Conor Oliver, Robin Copeland, CJ Stander.
