UL a hotbed of activity this weekend as Aldi Community Games comes to town

The first Aldi Community Games National Festival weekend in 2018 is taking place from the 25th to 27th May in the University of Limerick and will bring together the regional champions in friendly competition across a wide range of sporting and cultural activities, individual and team sports.

This will be the first of a three year agreement for the event to be held in Limerick.

The National Festival is usually held over 2 weekends each year where on each weekend between 3 and 4,000 children compete for their area, town, county and province, the second weekend of the festival at UL this year is set to take place on August 17th – 19th.

Over the past 51 years more than 5 million children have participated in Community Games, including many of Ireland’s celebrities, sporting heroes and world-famous actors. Some of the names in the history books include Paul O’Connell, Rob Heffernan, Saoirse Ronan, Niall Horan, Olive Loughnane, Niall Breslin known as Bressie, Niall Quinn, Colin Farrell and Sonia O’Sullivan.

The array of competitions and activities is vast, ranging from cross country racing, mini rugby and soccer, to handwriting chess and art.
