UL Bohemians shutout Railway Union to win top of the table clash

The current AIL title holders will head into the Christmas break five points clear of the chasing pack following a hard fought 12-0 on the road against their closest rivals in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

Bohs started well and had the better of the opening exchanges. Their work finally paid dividend when Laura Sheehan crossed for a well worked try with Edel Murphy adding the extras for a 7-0 lead.

In what had promised to be a hard fought and dogged encounter Railway responded with a concerted period of pressure but Bohs defence was sharp and managed to contain their opponents attacking threat.

Coming back out of the changing rooms, Bohs were again threatening after the restart and started to put together some good attacking patterns.

Eventually their endeavour paid off with a second try when Aine Staunton crossed to make it 12-0 and give the defending champions a bit of breathing space.

Indeed that score would the last of the game as Bohs showed exactly why they are champions. Being able to close out a tight game against your closest rivals on the road is the kind of performance that garners great satisfaction amongst the players and management.

Attention now turns to the Interpro series which sees 17 Bohs players selected in Laura Guest’s panel who will take on Connacht at the Sportsground on Saturday at 2:30pm.
