WATCH: Janesboro co-manager Aidan Ryan’s ambitions for new season

The 2017/2018 season was a very successful campaign for Janesboro Football Club. Under the guidance of both Shane O’Hanlon and Aidan Ryan, the club retained the Limerick Premier Division title for the first time in its history.  Also, the southside club were crowned Lawson Cup and Munster Champions Cup winners.

Local rivals Pike Rovers prevented a quadruple for the league champions as they defeated ‘Boro in the Munster Junior Cup final on penalties at Jackman Park.

From last season’s squad, Janesboro have lost the services of John Tierney. However, they have recruited well and signed James McGrath and Jeffrey Judge from Nenagh and Fairview respectively. Ryan and O’Hanlon have also managed to persuade Daragh Carroll to sign from rivals Pike Rovers. Ryan was excited by his new signings.

“James McGrath and Jeffrey Judge are good additions. They are very good players.  They have both played in the league of Ireland and I think they will add quality to the squad. We are delighted they are here and we hope they have a good season for us.”

Many believe Janesboro must push on in the FAI Junior Cup this season in order to call it a successful season. Despite dominating locally in recent years, the Pearse Stadium outfit have found it tougher at national level albeit losing out to eventual winners North End last season. Ryan sees no easy way to rectify the struggles in the FAI Cup.

“At the end of the day its cup football and it’s totally different to league football.  It’s cup football and on the day anyone can beat you in a cup match. It doesn’t matter what division or county you’re from. You have got to go out and take the game on it’s merits. We have to get our team right on the day in order to win those cups.

Janesboro host a new look Aisling Annacotty on the opening night of the season on Wednesday (kick-off 6.30). Despite the changes for the opposition, Ryan remains focused on his own team but is wary of the threat posed by Annacotty.

“It will be about ourselves. We are obviously going to target winning the match. Aisling seem to have brought in a lot of new players and as you said a new coaching ticket there. When someone like Jason O’Connor is involved in a team, there will be quality coaching going on there.”
