WATCH: Limerick’s Ciara Neville joins Gina Akpe-Moses in European U-20’s 100m final

Limerick’s Ciara Neville joins Gina Akpe-Moses in European U-20’s 100m final tomorrow.

In 1979 Patricia Amond + Michelle Walsh made the Euopean U20 100m final in Poland. History repeated itself in 2017 with Gina Akpe-Moses and Ciara Neville both making the final.

Akpe-Moses (Blackrock – Louth) finished second in her semi-final to qualify automatically for the final equalling her personal best of 11.56 into a headwind. She was also the second fastest qualifier overall for the final.

With two athletes qualifying automatically from each semi-final, of which there were three, Ciara Neville (Emerald) had an anxious wait having finished third in 11.79 in the second semi-final.

However It proved enough to advance as a fastest qualifier making it a momentous day for Irish sprinting.
