WATCH: Limerick’s Roisín Upton thanks fans as Ireland make Hockey World Cup 1/4 finals

The Irish Women’s Hockey side have qualified for the 1/4 finals of the World Cup following a superb 1-0 win over India in their pool clash this afternoon. Ireland were ranked 16 of the 16 teams qualified for the competition and have defied the odds to become the first side to qualify form their pool.

Today’s 1-0 win coupled with their opening 2-1 win over USA is enough to see Ireland top the group ahead of their final pool game with England on Sunday.

Once again Limerick and Crescent College Comprehensive alumni Roisin Upton played a key part in the win as Ireland’s focus will turn to the hosts on Sunday and then to their 1/4 final opponents.

The Limerick woman took to twitter to thank fans and supporters for their messages of support and well wishes and was looking forward to a few days recovery from their exploits.
