Oscar Traynor Trophy takes centre stage as Limerick DL travel to Kerry

The PJ Matthews Premier League action has been brought to a temporary halt this weekend with the beginning of the Oscar Traynor Trophy. Limerick District League are searching for the city’s first victory in the competition since 1996.

They begin the campaign away to Kerry DL with a 2pm kick-off. Managed by Prospect Priory manager Derek Braddish and assisted by both David Dunphy and Mike Considine, the Limerick side is drawn from the current top five teams in the premier division and a single representative from division 1A.

Former Fairview and current Cappamore central defender Brian Fitzgerald is the sole representative from 1A. Janesboro have five players included, Pike and Ballynanty each have four representatives while second placed Regional United have three members in the squad. Carew Park duo Adam Frahill and Daragh Rainsford make up the squad. Daragh Hughes, Adam Frahill and Evan Patterson are all making their debuts for Limerick DL should they feature.

There is one game in the FAI Cup on Sunday as 2B leaders Kennedy Park travel to 1B leaders Coonagh with a 2pm kick-off. Coonagh will be hoping to bounce back from an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Carew Park in the Munster Junior Cup last weekend.

Despite Gordon McKevitt supplying his side with a surprise lead, the northside outfit were easily dispatched. They will be looking to bounce back immediately to show the form which sees them at the top of the table in division 1B. On the other hand, Kennedy Park will be high on confidence and searching for an upset having taken top spot from Newport B last week.

In local action, Galtee Fuels 1A is the feature action on Sunday with the relegation battle taking centre stage. The bottom five sides are all in action with just five points separating them.

All three games have an 11pm kick-off. Fairview Rangers B host Granville Rangers at the Fairgreen. Corbally host the only side without relegation worries, Summerville. The Portland Park based outfit can jump to second place with a victory in Atlunkard. Castle Rovers and Aisling Annacotty B meet in Fedamore with both sides locked on five points.
