Peter Stringer has returned to Ireland, following the news that his short-term contract with Aviva Premiership side Worcester Warriors will not be renewed.
The 40-year-old signed the short-term deal in the summer and has since struggled to make it into the team, with Francois Hougaard the number one choice at scrum-half. The Munster legend has made just six appearances all season, with five of them coming as a substitute.
Worcesternews.co.uk have quoted Director of rugby Alan Solomons’ as saying.
“Peter has returned to Ireland,”.
“He hasn’t played for the side during my time here but he is very professional, trains hard and is a first-class guy. He has been good to have around the squad.
“He has also had a great career, playing in some great Ireland teams and great Munster teams and has played well over in England as well.”
The scrum half spent 15 seasons with Munster, during which time he had loan spells with English teams Saracens and Newcastle, before moving to England permanently with Bath, Sale and currently Worcester. Internationally, Stringer has represented Ireland 98 times.
The seasoned veteran had made it clear that he does not feel as though he is ready for retirement just yet, so many will be speculating as to where the Cork man might end up next.
