Friday Night Lights at Liam Fitzgerald Park for first time as Bruff visit for 2C Limerick derby clash

Thomond take on Bruff tonight in the only fixture in division 2C this weekend

For the first time in their history, Thomond will host a Ulster bank league fixture under lights as they play host to Limerick and Division 2B rivals Bruff. The last time these two sides met, back in November, the soda cakes came out on top in a very tight encounter on a scoreline of 8-6, thanks to the boot of Evan Cusack and a try from centre Ger Finucane.

The home side haven’t made Fitzgerald park the fortress they would have like this year losing 2 out of their five games here already this season, but thanks to some strong outings away from home, as well as some vital bonus points, they remain second in the table just three points off leaders Sligo.

Both side’s are going to be looking as this fixture as a must win, not only for local bragging rights, but because a win could move the county Limerick side up three places to third, or move the royal blues into top spot, for the time being anyway seeing as there are no other 2C fixtures for another week.

Eoin Cahill’s side had a perfect December with wins over Bective Rangers and Midleton which will set the away side up nicely for what will be more than likely be another very tight contest. Those two wins, however, didn’t really help Bruff’s cause, with them dropping out of the play off spots and into sixth due to the fact the teams around them also put in some decent results.

It’s a very tough one to call with James Hickey’s side on six wins in the league, but a loss in December and the away side on five wins but the perfect December. Given Thomond’s earlier derby win in the season and the fact they should have a big following tonight for the first ever league game under lights, one would have to side with them in this crucial Division 2C tie.
