Limerick minor footballers lose out to Clare

Limerick lost out in last night’s Minor Football Championship quarter final-clash in Cusack Park.

Niall Crowley’s men suffered a 3-13 to 2-09 defeat to Clare despite an improved second half performance.

The treaty men were all but out of the contest at the interval as the home side took a 2-9 to 0-4 lead into the break. Forward Shane Meehan was on fire for the banner in that period scoring 1-5, while Mark McInerney’s tally for the game was an impressive 2-3.

A second goal from captain John Hayes in the closing ten minutes and four late pointed frees from Dylan Maloney showed that Limerick were willing to fight to the end but wasn’t enough for them to force their way back into the game.

The loss represents Limerick’s sixth defeat in as many seasons in the competition to the banner county who will need to improve ahead of their playoff clash with Tipperary next Wednesday.
