WATCH – John Kiely on Waterford “they didn’t get to the All Ireland final by accident”

Waterford travel to the Gaelic Grounds again this weekend following an impressive performance against Tipperary at the Ennis Road venue last Sunday.

The tie ended in controversy thanks to Jason Forde’s ‘ghost goal’ which helped the Premier County to secure a point on the day.

The Deise, who have been dealing with a spate of injuries, weren’t given much hope coming into that game but controlled large parts of the tie against 14-man Tipp.

Limerick manager John Kiely says he wasn’t on board with the general consensus that Derek McGrath’s injury-hit panel would struggle.

“I wouldn’t have had them written off in fact I would have fancied them to put in a really strong performance. We know from the U21 grades the quality of players that they’ve had coming through over the last number of years so I wasn’t surprised that they put themselves in the position they did.”
