Limerick camogie face must win tie with Waterford as qualification out of their hands

Limerick play Waterford this Saturday in Walsh park knowing that qualification into the knockout rounds of the All-Ireland championship is out of their hands. Limerick have only picked up a solitary point thus far in the championship after a hard-fought draw against Clare in round 2.

The opening game saw them lose to Kilkenny while they were defeated by table toppers Galway last time out. Limerick take on Waterford in the final game knowing that anything other than a win will end their chances of progression to the knockout stages.

Limerick are deadlocked on points with Clare who face Kilkenny in their penultimate game this weekend. Clare’s superior points differential sees them hold third spot in Group 1 of the Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship. Clare will have their hands full with Kilkenny who defeated Limerick in their opener and are 100\% from their opening two games.

Clare’s final game is against Waterford the following week and should they defeat the Déise they would almost certainly be guaranteed passage to the knockout stages due to their points differential. Realistically Limerick need Clare to lose their last two games and to win their own game this weekend against Waterford to progress.

This weekend Limerick will once more look to scorer in chief, Niamh Mulcahy for inspiration. She has accounted for an incredible 0-24 out of Limerick’s total of 1-30 in the opening three games. She is joint top scorer in the championship to date, level with Tipperary’s Cait Devane.

Throw in this Saturday is 5pm in Walsh Park.
