Limerick face Kilkenny in Thurles on Sunday in the All Ireland Quarter Final looking to go one better than they did against the Cats last year when Brian Cody’s men ended Limerick’s ambitions with a three point victory in Nowlan Park.
Kilkenny have had two intense battles against Galway while Limerick come into the game on the back of a comfortable win over Carlow. In the first edition of the round robin format, teams have tended to struggle with three game on the bounce.
Despite this, Kiely says Limerick will not be taking any external factors into account and will be focused solely on their own performance.
“If you look at last year’s championship, Kilkenny played us one week and then played Waterford the next week and it went to extra time and they put one hell of a battle against Waterford.
“There won’t be any leaning on any factor like that in terms of our mentality going into the game. It’s a knockout quarter final, it’s a case of making sure you deliver the best performance that you can.
“We’ve an awful lot of work put in this year and we want to take another step in the championship on Sunday and that’s the bottom line.”
