WATCH: Brian Geary “The final is there to be won.”

Limerick’s last experience in the All Ireland final was not a fond one for the county. Against a star studded Kilkenny side, Limerick conceded two early goals and never recovered from it. Part of that team was one of John Kiely’s current selectors, Brian Geary and he has reminded his side that despite the hype there are only positive memories for the winners in Croke Park.

“When I think back to 2007, it isn’t the hype, it’s the losing and the guys need to realise that too, that the final is there to be won.”

With such a young team, the Limerick players could be forgiven for thinking that Croke Park will become a regular visit for the team. However, Geary looks at former teammate Seamus Hickey as an example of how difficult it can be to reach the showpiece decider.

“When you get there, you just have to take the chance. Seamus Hickey was involved in 2007 and he wouldnt have dreamed in his wildest dreams that it would be 2018 before he’s back in the final having only won one Munster title in the meantime.”
