Last year, Munster were defeated by eventual champions Leinster in the Pro 14 semi-final. The previous year, Munster were beaten by Scarlets in the decider in the Aviva stadium. After a number of promising acquisitions, Johann van Graan’s side will be keen to go one step further.
With the summer tour to Australia, Munster will be without some key players for the start of the season as they will be given ample recovery time to do their own pre-season. This has given fringe players to showcase their talents. Hooker, Kevin O’Byrne has spoke about this and it’s advantages to the squad as a whole.
“I suppose practice is great until you start playing games and you see what you’re really at then. As far as selection is concerned, it’s an opportunity for fella’s like myself, we get a game and get to show what we’re capable of.”
As mentioned above, Munster have added high quality to their already deep squad and O’Byrne is hoping these neew additions and also attention to detail in pre-season can propel Munster to silverware this season.
“It’s finding out what those fine tunings are that we need to put into place. Squad depth is going to be massive for us this year when we get to the end of the season. I think we have that squad now that will get us over the edge at the end.
