WATCH – Limerick fan’s ‘hurling pilgrimage’ from Dubai to watch senior hurlers end 45 year wait

This heartwarming video documents Pól O’Cearmeada’s trip from Dubai.

The 32-year-old primary school teacher has been living in the United Arab Emirates for three years and had previously been in attendance for the last three All-Ireland finals that Limerick have been involved in.

In 2007 O’Cearmeada made a shorter journey home for the decider at Croke Park when he travelled from France only to see Richie Bennis’ side lose out Kilkenny.

“I have been to every All-Ireland final we have been in in my life (3) including coming home from France to see us lose in 2007 and I was there in 2013 on the pitch from Dubai. I wasn’t going to let 8,000kms of distance stop me getting home to see us win for the first time in 45 years. And what’s better, I got to experience a childhood dream with all of my family! An incredible few days that will go down in Limerick (and Kildimo Pallaskenry) history!”

It’s clear that the Kildimo man was satisfied with how his long journey home panned out.

“This was the weekend to end all weekends and to get to share a dream like that with all my family was just incredible. I am a proud Limerick man and I wanted to make a video as a testament to what that victory meant to us.”
