Limerick SHC semis confirmed as Kilmallock and Patrickswell run riot in QFs

It will be repeat meetings in the Limerick SHC Semi Finals after Kilmallock and Patrickswell negotiated their respective Quarter Final clashes with the top two in Group 2 of the Limerick SHC. Kilmallock will now face current Limerick kingpin’s Na Piarsaigh in the last four while Doon will take on Patrickswell next weekend.

Kilmallock put Murroe Boher to the sword in the first game of a quarter final double header in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday afternoon winning out 4-27 to 0-13. Kilmallock had 1-4 accounted for before Murroe Boher opened their scoring through Pat Tobin in the 8th minute. Robbie Hanley would notch his sides second goal on the stroke of the quarter hour mark as Kilmallock took a 2-11 to 0-7 advantage into the break.

The Balbec really flexed their muscles in the second half as they blitzed last years Premier Intermediate champions. With scores coming from all over the pitch, Kilmallock had twelve scorers in total, second half goals from Paudie O’Brien and Jake Mulcahy would prove to be the icing on the cake in a comprehensive twenty-six-point victory.

In the afternoons second game, 2016 champions Patrickswell secured passage into the semi finals with a 1-26 to 1-13 win over Group 2 winners South Liberties. This contest began with the sides evenly matched. After 20 minutes the sides were deadlocked at seven points a piece with Aaron Gillane and Brian Ryan proving deadly accurate from frees. However, the Well would hit the next five scores which was followed by a Thomas O’Brien goal to put them 1-12 to 0-8 ahead at the half.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first ended with Patrickswell firmly on top. South Liberties did not score until the 18th minute of the half with Patrickswell holding a 1-20 to 0-9 advantage at that stage. To their credit, South Liberties did not give in and were rewarded late on as Brian Ryan goaled for his side. However, it was much too little too late as Gary Kirby’s troops advanced to the last four.

Premier Intermediate Championship

In the Premier Intermediate Championship, just four teams remain in the quest to earn promotion to the senior ranks. Mungret’s 2-19 to 2-14 win over Feonagh sees them top the group as they have a superior head to head record with Kildimo Pallaskenry who finished level on points after they defeated Blackrock 4-16 to 0-16.

Despite a 1-13 to 0-9 round five loss to Bruree, Bruff will face Mungret in the semi-finals. Garrispillane played out an entertaining 2-15 to 2-15 draw with Pallasgreen on Saturday and they will now take on Kildimo Pallaskenry for a place in the Premier Intermediate county final.
