Blastoff Jet and Clonbrien Prince are the ones with the momentum ahead of Saturday’s €60,000 Barking Buzz App Irish St Leger Final in Limerick.
Both dogs were victorious in their respective semi finals during an action packed weekend in Greenpark.
Joint trainer/owner Philip Buckley, from Tipperary, will be aiming for his first Leger success with Blastoff Jet, who has won five of his ten starts to date. Clonbrien Prince is one of three Graham Holland-trained runners in the final as he looks for a second straight St Leger success.
Nice Charmer and Lenson Blinder also run for Holland, having finished behind their kennelmate in Saturday’s semi final.
Veteran Crohane Ronnie, trained by Waterford’s Declan Byrne, along with the Robert Roberts (Kildare) kennelled Urban Jet, make up the six finalists.
Racing manager with Limerick Greyhound Stadium, Liam Kennedy, commented:
“Saturday’s event is the biggest night of the year here in Limerick, along with the annual Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stake. It’s been high-quality and high-drama for the last four weekends and now sixty dogs have become six. I have no doubt that this weekend’s final will live up to its billing and the winner will certainly have earnt their prize.”
He added: “The Leger has been referred to as a Classic and it has been that and more so far this year, with the final still to come. There is huge excitement and anticipation building here at Limerick Greyhound Stadium for the big night. I want to wish the very best of luck to all six finalists and their connections for Saturday.”
The St Leger is one of 14 ‘Classic’ races in the Irish greyhound calendar and one of two held in Limerick, along with the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stake, which will begin in March 2019.
