Exodus begins at Limerick FC as Duggan & Coleman depart

Limerick FC have lost the services of vital midfield duo Cian Coleman and captain Shane Duggan following relegation from the Airtricity League Premier Division. Coleman has signed for St. Patrick’s Athletic under the guidance of new manager Harry Kenny while former captain Duggan has agreed to sign for Munster rivals Waterford FC.

Duggan’s signing was announced this afternoon on Waterford FC’s social media platforms. Manager Alan Reynolds was clearly delighted with the signature.

“He’s a strong and powerful player and he was an almost-ever present for Limerick last season. He did well in the games against us and we’re delighted to get it sorted nice and early with Shane.”

Duggan was also enthusiastic about the coming season on Suirside. Speaking to the club’s official website, the Limerick native stated:

“It’s a massive club and a challenge I’m really looking forward to. I obviously played against Waterford last year and it’s great to be part of that now to hopefully help the club build on last season.”

The departure will hurt Limerick supporters despite the fact that many on Shannonside would have expected it. Duggan was one of few senior pro’s to remain at the club in 2018 following well documented financial troubles midway through the season. The former Cork City man spent the last six seasons with his hometown club. The silence from the Markets Field outfit will certainly worry football enthusiasts in the city.
