They will be looking for victory in the final of Ireland’s Fittest Family on RTE this weekend – but the Lawlors have already tasted success in Limerick Greyhound Stadium.
Chris Peanuts, owned by the High Rollers Syndicate headed by Jonah Lawlor, from Shanagolden in Co. Limerick, won on her first outing last Saturday.
The five-person syndicate is made up of members from Shanagolden, Pallaskenry and Newcastle West.
Jonah said: “I have always had a love of greyhounds and wanted to be involved. It’s more fun being involved in a syndicate. We got a few of us together to get the ball rolling and bought the dog from my uncle Pakie Moroney. It was a great start to the night and we felt a great buzz at the stadium
afterwards .Hopefully after some of the lads at home see this win we can get a few more syndicates together!”
Regarding the dog’s name, he said: “We wanted a name that would sound funny coming over the intercom. One of the lads suggested Chris Peanuts because it sounds like crispy nuts when it’s being said, there was woeful carry on with the names!”He continued: “She was going great all along at home so it’s great for her to win on her first time out. We might give her one more run in Limerick before the year is out, she has some guts about her and will probably show improvement.”
Racing Support Officer at Limerick Greyhound Stadium, Liam Kennedy, commented: “I’d like to congratulate Jonah and the members of the High Rollers Syndicate on their win last Saturday. It’s a busy time here in Greenpark as we enter the festive season and it was great to see the Lawlor family here to celebrate Chris Peanuts’ win. I wish them the best of luck in the final of Ireland’s Fittest Family.”
Chris Peanuts crossed the line in a time of 29.69 seconds,
