Kelly appointed Limerick FC captain

Long serving Limerick FC right-full back Shaun Kelly has been announced as captain of the club ahead of the new Airtricity League First Division season. The 29 year-old returned to the club in December 2018 having been released by previous manager Neil McDonald in July of the same year.

Kelly has played in the League of Ireland since 2008 when he signed for Dundalk following his return from Hearts. In 2010, he swapped Dundalk for Galway United but lasted just six months before the Tribesmen ran into financial difficulties and Pat Scully signed Shaun for Limerick FC.

Since then, bar two departures for short periods of time including a brief move to Derry City, the tenacious right-back has spent the last eight years with the club. The appointment is sure to be a popular decision among supporters as Kelly is a fans favourite. With Robbie Williams taking up a player/coach role and Shane Tracy signing back just last week, Kelly was the obvious choice for manager Tommy Barrett in a very youthful Limerick line up for the season ahead.
