Limerick SHC Round 2 Preview

The second round of the Limerick SHC takes place this weekend before it takes a break to allow for the start of the Munster football and hurling championships.

After an eventful opening round, we have a look at the upcoming games.

Adare v South Liberties

Saturday April 21 @4.15pm in Bruff

The first game of the weekend in Senior A is a huge one for both sides involved. Adare lost out by five points to Kilmallock in the opening round whilst South Liberties suffered a heavy 22-point loss to Na Piarsaigh on their return to the top tier. Both sides will have signalled this as a must win game with the loser favoured to finish bottom of the group, despite only two games being played thus far. Adare’s experience should see them over the line.

Kilmallock v Doon

Saturday April 21 @6pm in Bruff

These sides suffered contrasting fortunes in the opening round with last years county finalists Doon losing out to Patrickswell while Kilmallock picked up an opening day win. Doon face an uphill battle as they will be without Captain and All-Star Richie English after he picked up a red against the ‘Well. Kilmallock to prevail.

Na Piarsaigh v Patrickswell

Sunday April 22 @2pm in Kilmallock

The big tie of the weekend pits the last two winners of the competition against each other. Na Piarsaigh have been crowned champions five times this decade, including the last two while Patrickswell won out in 2016. Both picked up impressive opening day wins and will be intent on adding another this Sunday. Patrickswell will be right up for this game but on their day no side is a match for Na Piarsaigh.

GROUP 2

Ahane v Ballybrown

Friday April 19 @6.45pm at the Childers Road

Another clash between sides who had contrasting fortunes in the opening round. Ahane will be disappointed to have lost out against Monaleen but may well suffer the same fate against a Ballybrown side who picked up their first championship win in almost two years.

Garryspillane v Monaleen

Saturday April 20 @6pm in Caherconlish

Both sides will take confidence from the opening day results as Garryspillane earned a draw in their first game back in the Senior championship while Monaleen picked up a victory. This will be another close game but Garryspillane could pull off a shock to secure their first victory of the campaign.

Knockainey v Murroe-Boher

Sunday April 21 @1pm in Caherconlish

After only securing a draw against newly promoted Garryspillane, Murroe will be looking at this game as a must win against a Knockainey side who were badly beaten by Ballybrown in the opening round. Murroe to ease to victory.
