Caffrey gives his opinion on Connolly linesman incident.
Former Dublin manager Paul Caffrey was not one bit happy with Diarmuid Connolly after a sideline incident involving the linesman during Dublin’s victory over Carlow.
Connolly became involved in shoving and pushing with a number of Carlow players as he tried to get the ball back for a sideline kick, but he then decided to shove the linesman when possession was awarded Carlow’s way by them getting a free.
Caffrey reckons Connolly should have been sent off for his actions in Portlaoise.
Writing in his column for the Mirror Caffrey said:
‘I think he’ll be cited and will face disciplinary action. If that happens, there’s only one suspension for what he did – a 12-week ban’.
‘It really was a moment of madness – it nearly brought me back to that Paul Galvin incident a few years ago’
‘He’s 30 years of age now. It’s 10 years since he made his Dublin debut. Let’s put it in context – Dublin are going to win this match one way or the other by 10-plus points and he’s arguing over a line ball midway through the second-half’.
‘He should have been sent off for putting his hand on the linesman. It’s crazy, a total lack of discipline. I’d feel very strongly that he’s let his teammates down’.
Connolly could now face a 12 week ban if convicted.
