WATCH: Tommy Barrett “We didn’t perform to our best”

Limerick FC manager Tommy Barrett admitted that his side’s performance against Bray Wanderers on Friday night was below par. Bray were the better side in the first half but it looked as though Limerick’s resolute defending had withheld the pressure.

However, on the stroke of half-time, recent recruit Clyde O’Connell attempted to shield the ball out of play under pressure from Dylan McGlade but pushed the former Longford winger over and conceded a penalty in the process.

Veteran central-midfielder Paul Keegan blasted his penalty straight down the middle past the helpless Jack Brady to give Gary Cronon’s men the lead.

Despite former Limerick player Killian Cantwell receiving a second yellow card and subsequent red for a foul on Lee Devitt, Limerick failed to muster a clear chance.

Barrett felt his side struggled to use the man advantage. “We didn’t do enough in the second half to win the game when they were down to ten. In fairness, it’s very difficult for the young lads. Even to play with that extra man can be difficult. But Bray worked their socks off with ten men and were good on the counter attack.”
