Mixed results for Limerick sides in Kennedy Cup

There was contrasting fortunes for the Limerick sides in the opening round of the 2017 Kennedy Cup.

Limerick Desmond Schoolboy League were the only winners with a 2-0 victory over the Carlow League in Group 1.

A brace from Ballingarry’s Michael Molly along with a goal from Shannonside’s Niall O’Connor saw the West Limerick side pick up a vital three points.

It’s the Kilkenny League who are next up for the Desmond side with the two sides to kick off tomorrow morning at 10:30am.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for the two Limerick sides competing in Group 3 as both suffered defeats.

Limerick District looked to have done enough to secure a 1-1 draw but up popped Athlone League’s Tom Cloonan with a dramatic winner as the clock ticked into time added on.

Limerick County Schoolboy League opened their Group 3 campaign with a 4-0 defeat to a strong Wexford side.

Limerick District and Limerick County meet in a crucial derby fixture on tomorrow, Tuesday, morning at 10.30am with both sides looking to get their campaigns back on track.
