Limerick Mountain Biker Oisin O’Callaghan ended his Mountain Bike Downhill Race Season on a high, finishing 2nd overall in the IXS European Downhill Series.
September only means one thing on the Mountain Biking calendar – the season-ending finale, where the alpine village of Brandnertal in Austria played host to.
O’Callaghan headed into Brandnertal with a mammoth task in front of him having given up 400 ranking points to the leaders due to starting his own schedule a number of events into the season. Saturday’s quailifying race was not short of Drama, as many of the riders took an aggressive approach to the track, getting it cut up in the process, making conditions very unpredicble hour after hour.
During the qualifying race, the Limerick rider was involved in a big crash and was very lucky to avoid injury and managed to make Sunday’s finale unscathed. O’Callaghan rode a respectable time and finished the race 2nd, to end his season on a Podium.
The podium finish left the 16-year-old 2nd overall in the Pro U17 IXS European Downhill Series without any injury or knocks to patch up over the break, giving the young Pro a full Winter to prepare for next season.
