Limerick District League manager John Grehan got off to the perfect start as he oversaw a 2-1 victory over Clare District League at Jackman Park in the Oscar Traynor Trophy on Thursday night. Goals from Clyde O’Connell and Connor Ellis cancelled out Rory Hayes opener for the visitors.
It was a tough game for the home side but Grehan felt they were deserving of the victory on the balance of play.
“Over the ninety minutes, I thought we were deserving of the win. We came in at half time and I had a chat with the players and in fairness, they started the second half a lot better.
We made changes as we have a big squad and we utilised that. I think the players that came in made a difference. The big thing for me is that we needed to stay calm because we have good footballing players.”
Grehan also speaks about the performances of individual players and next Tuesday’s trip to Askeaton to face the Limerick District League.
