Aherne Leaves Aisling Annacotty due to off-field Commitments

Michael Aherne has announced that he has stepped down as manager of Aisling Annacotty with immediate effect due to work and personal commitments.

In a letter penned to all members of the squad, Aherne expressed his gratitide for all the hard work and dedication shown by the club over the last two years.

Last season, the former Limerick FC full-back led the club to the FAI Junior Cup Semi-Final where they were defeated 1-0 by Sheriff YC in controversial circumstances.

Annacotty appealed the decision on the grounds that Sheriff used illegal players but the appeal was unsuccessful and the club were disappointed with the FAI’s handling of the matter.

Due to the current Coronavirus restrictions which prevents sports events taking place, Aherne was unable to finish the season with the club which will disappoint the former Pike Rovers and Regional man as Annacotty had reached the Munster Junior Cup Semi-Final and with the recently acquired experience of Shane and Thomas Clarke along with Shane Tracy, may have had every chance of winning the competition.

Following Aherne’s departure, a number of names have been linked with the managerial vacancy which will certainly be a much sought after role within Limerick junior soccer.

Former Geraldines manager Paul O’Donnell, former Limerick FC player Sean Russell, former Pike Rovers manager Mick Shiel and current Janesboro manager Shane O’Hanlon have all been linked to the post.
