LISTEN: “It’s some achievement”-Adam English on reclaiming the Munster Minor Title

Yesterday Adam English became the fourth Limerick captain to lift Munster Minor Hurling honours for the Treaty men since 2013.

The Doon man was instrumental in the decider, notching five from play as Limerick outlasted Tipperary 2-22 to 0-25 after extra-time in the Gaelic Grounds.

It was English’s second consecutive triumph at the grade as he reflected on the victory.

“It’s brilliant, some achievement, Thank God we got over it. At one stage I thought Tipp had it but the lads dug their feet into the ground and we got over the line”

They are the first minor team to go back to back since the crop of ’13/’14 who have gone on to win a brace of senior All-Ireland titles in the meantime.

For English, John Kiely’s senior squad is the base for much of their preparation as they look to emulate the Liam MacCarthy holders.

“We’re basing all our plays of the senior team and they re a great base for us to look at and hopefully some of us will go on and do better things for the county. Push ourselves for the 20’s next year but hopefully now we will get over the line against Galway.”

That Galway clash will be played on the weekend of January 2/3 as Limerick will be looking to reach a first All-Ireland minor final since 2014.

Limerick’s last triumph in the grade came in 1984 and English says his side are focused on getting the job done, once they bodies recover that is!

”We have to go on again against Galway and hopefully get over the line in that. We will go hell for leather in training for the next few weeks and go for that again. The bodies are sore enough but they will be fine!”
