The former Munster man had his first interview with the French side earlier this week.
Donnacha Ryan had such a superb season last year with both Munster and Ireland which made it even harder for fans to see him leave. Many felt he had so much still to offer for club and country but since the IRFU didn’t feel the same way and offer him a lucrative enough contract, he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to join the former Top14 champions.
As he talks about in the interview, Ryan only started playing rugby at 17, which is relatively late for most sports and Racing Defence coach and former Munster player Ronan O’Gara was the one that inspired him to take up the game.
Having made his debut for the club in 2004, Ryan was always a favourite with the Province due to the intensity and passion he brought to the game. For many years he had to wait patiently on the bench behind Paul O’Connell and Donnacha O’Callaghan but always delivered when asked and this is why it was so disappointing for Munster fans to see him leave.
