Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has selected a 29-man squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup Qualifying games.
Ireland will begin their campaign with an away game against Serbia in six days time and will follow that game with a home game against Luxembourg and a friendly against Qatar in Hungary.
Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu who is currently on loan at League One Rochdale from Manchester City, received his first call up with four netminders named in the squad. There are fears over the availability of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher who is returning from injury.
There will be a couple of noticeable absentees from the squad with Darren Randolph and centre-back John Egan ruled out through injury.
Experienced right-back and captain Seamus Coleman has had limited game time under Kenny’s stewardship and the former Derry City manager will hope that the Everton full-back will be available for selection especially due to Matt Doherty’s inconsistent performances for Tottenham in recent months.
Kenny is still searching for his first win as Ireland manager and the side have struggled for goals.
He has named a plethora of strikers but all players outside of Ronan Curtis are struggling to maintain their place at club level. Troy Parrott netted his first senior goal for Ipswich last weekend.
