Off the back of a stellar 2021 thus far, Limerick’s Sarah Lavin has been chosen to take part in the Tokyo Olympics.
Lavin is one of 25 Irish athletes chosen to represent Team Ireland on the track and field at the games.
The Lisnagry woman will compete at the 100m Hurdles at the games which kick off on 23rd July and run until the 8th August. The athletics events occur in the second week of the Games.
Last month, Lavin became only the second ever Irish woman to break the 13s barrier in the event, finishing in 12.95 seconds at the World Athletics Continental Tour in Madrid.
Prior to her selection, Lavin spoke about her dreams of representing Ireland at the games.
“It would be a fairytale. Not the ending, but it would be a fairytale to make it.
“I just want to do it for her, for her family, they’re very good friends of mine and there’s so many people… it’s me on the track but there’s a lot of people holding everything together.”
The 27-year-old has had to battle with injuries in the past but the Emerald AC athlete has overcome those struggles to cement her place at the showpiece event.
