Pat Ryan names side to face Wexford in championship opener

Pat Ryan has named his side to face Wexford in the opening round of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship that will take place in Newcastle West this Saturday.

Following a much needed two week rest after a disappointing loss in the Munster Championship final to Cork, Limerick will be hungry to open their campaign with a win and build momentum early.

The treaty side will look to replicate the fine form they had throughout the Munster championship and quickly forgot the heavy 17-point defeat handed to them at the final hurdle of the provincial championship final.

Ahead of the game Ryan stated:

“The championship is going to be a dog fight. We’re expecting a massive challenge from Wexford. Everyone rises their game for championship”.

The Shannonsiders will look to pick up a valuable win against Martin Lynch’s side. The last outing saw a heavy defeat at the hands of the rebels, with a final score of 4-20 to 2-9.However, Ryan and his team will use this game as a chance to prove themselves once more and make a statement early in the championship.

One of the changes from the last side that suffered defeat in the Munster Championship will see Néamh Curtin replace Mairead Ryan. Sinead mcnamara will step in alongside Megan O’Mara for the absent captain Karen O’Leary.

Limerick team to play Wexford:

Laura O’Neill, Marian Quaid, Muireann creamer, Róisín Ambrose, Néamh Curtin, Judith Mulcahy, Niamh Ryan (VC), Megan O’Mara, Sinéad McNamara, Caoimhe Lyons, Caoimhe Costello, Rebecca Delee, Áine Cunningham, Sophie O’Callaghan, Laura Stack.

The championship opener is set to take place this Saturday July 17th in Newcastle West, with throw-in at 2:30pm.
