Limerick District League Premier Division Round-Up

Pike Rovers continued their free-scoring start to the Limerick District Premier Division season with an emphahtic 7-1 victory over Kilmallock at Crossagalla. Robbie Williams made 6 changes to his starting line-up for the game.

Regional United bounced back from the opening night defeat to Aisling Annacotty with a narrow 1-0 win over Prospect Priory at Dooradoyle.

Jack Arra gave Tom O’Connell’s side the lead but there very nervy moments from the home side when two long range strikes hit the underside of the crossbar for Wayne Colbert’s side.

Fairview Rangers picked up their second successive victory with a narrow 2-1 victory over Nenagh AFC at the Fairgreen on Sunday. Nenagh took the lead in the first-half when Nathan Kelly scored. Ross Mann equalised for the home side who were forced to come from behind for the second time in four days.

Bizarrely, both sides spurned chances from the penalty spot in the second period as both Harry Fleming and Aaron Savage kept their teams level.

Fairview have a strong squad once again this season and it was two players from the club’s B team who had a big victory over Cappamore on Saturday night who were central to Jason Purcell’s side taking the lead. Cian Fitzgerald whose brother James is also part of the Fairview squad, provided the cross for recently signed AJ Moloney to convert and hand the Fairgreen outfit the 3 points.

Fairview will now travel to Coonagh on Thursday night while Nenagh will play their first home game of the season against Regional United.

Geraldines succumbed to a second defeat in four days as opponents Coonagh left the Garryowen Green with all three points. The visitors raced into a 0-2 first half lead with Ger Myles grabbing a brace and picking up where he left off in recent seasons.

Geraldines were down a lot of players for this encounter but they showed great character to pull one back before half time as David Hurley scored. Both Frank Harnett and Trevor Daly traded goals as James O’Neill and Keith Doran’s side emerged victorious ahead of a tough home clash with Fairview Rangers on Thursday night.

Geraldines will hope to pick up their first points of the season when they host Mungret Regional.

In a goal-fest at Pearse Stadium, Aisling Annacotty were 4-2 winners over Janesboro on Shane O’Hanlon’s return to his former club. Daithi O’Donoghue also came up against his former team as he was O’Hanlon’s assistant at Annacotty last season.

Annacotty took a 0-2 lead through two very well taken goals from Shane Tracy and Shane Clarke. Janesboro pulled a goal back before Liam Quinn regained their two-goal lead. ‘Boro were not giving up and reduced the arrears once more before former Boro player Shane Stack secured all three points for the away team.
