The Limerick Ladies Football team lost out 0-4 to Wicklow’s 1-12 in the semi-final of the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Ladies football championship played in Tang, county Westmeath.
Wicklow are now back in the All-Ireland Junior Championship final after a comprehensive win over Limerick in Tang, county Westmeath on Saturday.
Last year’s runner-up Wicklow put on an impressive display, while Limerick struggled to narrow the gap between them.
Wicklow’s Clodagh Fox got Wicklow on the scoreboard first at the games six minute mark, Fox’s momentum was built on by teammates Sarah Delahunt, Maire Kealy and Laurie Ahern, who all added points thereafter.
Wicklow’s scoring spree was brought to a halt by Limerick’s Iris Kennelly, only to be replied to by another two points from Wicklow’s Catherine Dempsey and Laurie Ahern, extending their side’s lead to five.
Although the Shannonsiders struggled to convert possession into points, they did manage to reduce Wicklow’s lead to just four points by the end of the first half.
The game’s first and only goal came early in the second half as Wicklow’s Catherine Dempsey sent a sharp high ball deep into the Limerick box, only to be finished off by Clodagh Fox who put it in the Limerick net.
Fox kept the pressure on Limerick straight after; following up with a point just two minutes later, she extended Wicklow’s lead to ten.
Despite Limerick’s strenuous efforts to get points on the board, they failed to break through the Wicklow defence.
Aoife Gillen and Catherine Dempsey added the last two of Wicklow’s points to the board in the games closing minutes, bringing the final scoreline to 1-12 : 0-4.
