WATCH: “It’s so so special” | Mungret St Pauls’ Cian O’Brien and Pa Begley reflect on their PIHC Final win

Mungret ended a 31-year wait on Sunday as they booked their seat at the senior hurling table for 2022 after claiming the PIHC title.

Mungret were in scintillating form in the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Sunday’s Premier Intermediate Hurling final as they overcame Cappamore 4-17 to 1-12.

A pair of goals in either half proved crucial with captain Cian O’Brien speaking about the importance of the win for the club.

“I was wondering were we ever going to make that step.”

“It’s so so special. My uncle Gerry was on the last Mungret team to play senior 40 years ago so to be a part of this is special.”

Begley was in imperious form at centre back with so much coming through the towering defender. Speaking about the attacking quality at their disposal, Begley praised not only the skill levels of his teammates but also the workrate that comes with it.

“It’s easy back the field when you have that workrate. All the ball coming down our end of the field this year was under presssure and it makes it easy for us.”
