William O’Connor’s World Darts Championship opener confirmed for Night Two

William O’Connor will be one of 96 players in this years William Hill World Darts Championship.

Limerick native William O’Connor will kick off his World Championship campaign on Thursday December 16 against Danny Lauby in Round One.

Their meeting will be the first of Thursday’s evening session with both men taking to the stage at the Alexndra Palace shorty after 7pm.

O’Connor is ranked at 42 in the world heading into the tournament after reaching the third round of the Players Championship last month.

The Cappamore man has reached the second round of the Worlds in the past two years, with his run to the third round in 2019 his best yet at the championships.

His opponent, Lauby is currently unranked and will be competing in his second world championships after losing to Ryan Searle in the first round last December.

If O’Connor is successful then he will take on Glen Durrant on December 22 in the afternoon session that begins at 12.30pm. 51-year-old Durrant is currently ranked number 24 in the world and was Premier League champion in 2020.

The opening night of the World Darts Championship is on Wednesday December 15 and will see world number one Price face the winner of Ritchie Edhouse v Lihao Wen, which will be the first game to grace the iconic Ally Pally stage.

Price was crowned champion last year after beating Gary Anderson behind closed doors to capture his maiden world title.

Following a three-day Christmas break starting on December 24, the third and fourth rounds will be held from December 27-30, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final being held from January 1-3.

The tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, through the PDC’s worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and RTL7, andย on PDCTVย (excluding UK and Netherlands based subscribers).
