TEAM | First Camogie squad of 2022 named as Limerick travel to Kilkenny in League opener

Limerick open their 2022 League campaign against Kilkenny this weekend.

John Lillis has named his first Limerick Senior Camogie team for the 2022 season as the Shannonsiders head to Callan to take on Kilkenny on Sunday.

There are plenty of new faces in the squad to take on the defending champions.

Marian Quiad captains the side from full back with vice-captain Aisling Scanlon named at wing forward.

Sophie O’Callaghan is relocated to centre-back where she starred for Adare in their Junior A Championship victory in November.

In total, only eight of the side that started Limerick’s final championship game in 2021 are named in the XV. Those are Quaid, Scanlon, O’Callaghan, Muireann Creamer, Caoimhe Costello, Neamh Curtin, Rebecca Delee and Caoimhe Lyons.

Into the team comes Claire Keating who replaces the injured Laura O’Neill in goal, while Sinead Barry and Emma Kennedy slot in in the full back line.

Orlaith Kelleher starts at midfield with Costello.

Ailbhe Larkin, Laura Fennelly and Sarah O’Brien are new into the forward unit.

Limerick take on Kilkenny this Sunday in John Lockes GAA Club Callan in the opening round of the League at 2pm.

Up next for Limerick is Cork in three weeks time before they welcome Clare in the final round.
