Limerick FC have been handed a tough draw in the second round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup as they face Donegal outfit and SSE Airtricity League Premier Division rivals Finn Harps. The tie will be played on the weekend ending August 27 with the exact date and time to be confirmed.
It is one of two all-premier division ties in the competition. Just one point separates 7th place Limerick and 9th place Finn Harps in the league.
Both clubs will be aware that should they advance beyond the second round, a place in at least the semi-final phase of the competition is very achievable. However, both Cork and Dundalk were handed draws against Athlone Town and Crumlin United respectively, which means they will be firm favourites to contest the final like they did in 2016, should they avoid each other.
Finn Harps have a good recent record against Limerick. The sides contested a 1-1 draw at the Markets Field in March before Ollie Horgan’s side emerged victorious from the second meeting at Finn Park in May on a 3-2 scoreline. The Shannonsiders will be looking to improve this record in the FAI Cup, as it will also be the first of two matches in a week between the sides.
