Treaty’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end as Galway United defeated the Limerick side in a 2-1 loss last night.
Treaty fell short of the mark Monday night as they picked up their first loss in the Airtricity League First Division. Galway United managed to complete a 2-1 victory over Treaty in a tough defeat for the Limerick side.
Two first half goals for Galway was enough of a cushion for the Connacht side to see out the game despite a second half goal from treaty. Wilson Waweru and Stephen Walsh were the contributors for Galway.
In the second half treaty chased the game and their only goal came from former Galway player Enda Curran. Curran also almost bagged a beauty of an equaliser as he saw his overhead kick sail just past the posts. Unfortunately Treaty’s fate was sealed as they had no answer for Galway’s first half goals.
Treaty now look to their next game, a cup clash against Cork on Friday at 3pm.
After the game Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett was first asked his immediate reaction to his sides loss in the clash as he said,
“I thought we were unlucky, you know there was nothing in the first half. Conceded a poor goal from out point of view. Good from their point of view. I thought we had the better play for the rest of the first half. Second half we were the much better team.
“If we go back to their second goal, the linesman tells the ref that its a free he doesn’t give it. It’s definitely a free, everyone in the ground thought it was a free but the referee didn’t and he is who counts.”
Treaty unfortunately conceded a goal quite early on setting them up for a difficult game for the rest of the night. With the early goal conceded Barrett was asked about his mindset after being down in the game and how it obviously wasn’t the game plan.
“It’s very hard to score two goals up here, but we were the much better team I thought particularly in the second half. Look don’t get me wrong they got opportunities on the counter, but it was only on the counter. We had the pinned in we played all the football and that decision kills the game, it makes it really difficult for us”
Picking up on the refereeing performance, Barrett was frustrated by some of the decisions that went against his side,
“The Linesman gave it (the free kick), he said to the Referee’s assistant, which is the assistant referee now these days so you should listen to them. He said to him it was a clear foul for me and it’s a free out and he said (the referee) I don’t think so.
“I heard the conversation so it’s a clear foul, he should go with his assistant referee. You shouldn’t call them that any more if you’re not willing to listen to their decision. look we are not going to cry about it, he left it now. Very proud of the second half but you know those things do grate a bit they shouldn’t happen. It’s a push in the back, you know nine times out of ten a ref gives those ones.”
Speaking about the next fixture on Treaty’s schedule, Barrett was asked about there schedule as Treaty have no time to dwell on the game as they look to make up for this loss in their next match against Cork on Friday night.
“Yeah we never dwell on it anyway, we just drive on. It’s as we keep saying we take it game by game, that’s all you can do tonight hasn’t went for us. Hopefully we can be on the end of like that this year. The referee saw what he saw and as I said nine times out of ten out of ten you get those.”
