It promises to be a weekend full of drama in the Airtricity League First Division with two sets of fixtures to be played over the bank holiday weekend. We have tasked our Sporting Limerick soccer analysts and a much less informed presenter with the task of predicting both sets of fixtures but firstly, we will concentrate on the games taking place this Friday night.
Treaty United travel to Athlone Town on Friday night and all three of our predictors have went for a second win over the Midlanders for Treaty in 11 days. In a huge clash at the RSC, Waterford and Galway meet as they try desperately to keep pace with Cork City who are in great. I selected a draw for this encounter and was joined by Jason in “sitting on the fence.” However, Noel O’Connor reckons that Waterford FC will come out on top.
Wexford FC face Cobh Ramblers at Ferrycarrig Park and it is the second meeting of the sides with Wexford emerging victorious in Cobh earlier this season. Both Jason and Noel feel that Wexford will continue their winning form against Cobh while I have conservatively selected a draw.
In the final meeting of the night, Cork City host Bray Wanderers and it is a clean sweep with all of us selecting a Cork win which won’t surprise many given recent form.
The table is a lot closer than the start of the campaign with Noel now in the lead on 40 points with Jason 2 points further back and I am four points off the top on 36 points.
Predictions: Game 1-Athlone vs Treaty
Game 2- Waterford vs Galway
Game 3– Wexford vs Cobh
Game 4- Cork vs Bray
Jason: Treaty, Draw, Wexford, Cork
Noel: Treaty, Waterford, Wexford, Cork
Adrian: Treaty, Draw, Draw, Cork
