Kilkenny confirmed as Limerick’s U20 All-Ireland final opponents

The U20 All-Ireland final pairing have been confirmed.

Limerick’s opponents in the 2022 All-Ireland final have been confirmed as Kilkenny after they claimed Leinster honours last year.

The final date or venue is yet to be fixed but the sides will meet on the weekend of May 21/22.

A Jack Doyle proved key as they overcame Wexford by a point to seal a May 21/22 date with the Munster kingpins.

Last week Limerick claimed provincial honours with a 1-25 to 2-18 win over Tipperary following wins over Clare, Cork and Waterford in previous rounds.

This years decider is a repeat of the 2017 U21 final where Tom Morrissey captained Limerick to a 0-17 to 1-11 win in Thurles, their second All-Ireland win in three years.

Morrissey was one of five players in that XV that started the following years All-Ireland final.

Joining Morrissey in that regard were Sean Finn, Kyle Hayes, Cian Lynch and Aaron Gillane.

A further ten from the team have gone on to win All-Ireland senior honours.

Neither Limerick or Kilkenny have featured in the decider since 2017.

In that time the grade changed to U20, with Tipperary winning the inaugural title while Cork went back to back in 2020-‘21.

Kilkenny are second in the U21 roll of honour with 12, one behind Cork, with the Cats last triumph coming in 2008.

Limerick have won six titles with five coming since the turn of the millennium.
