Limerick Sarsfields face North Cork in Corn John Scott Final in Celtic Challenge

Over the weekend, six teams will be crowned as the 2022 Electric Ireland Celtic Challenge winners.

Limerick Sarsfields have a chance at silverware this Saturday as they take on North Cork in the final of the Corn John Scott.

The game takes place in the TUS Galic Grounds at 12pm.

Like many competitions on the GAA calendar, the Celtic Challenge hurling series did not take place due to Covid in 2020, and had to be modified and regionalised in 2021.

However in 2022 it bounced back in style, and while a half a dozen teams will have cause for celebration this weekend, perhaps the most important thing that the competition offers to counties looking to promote and develop hurling, is its adaptability.

Few teams have improved as much as Limerick Sarsfields during the competition and they will aim to secure the title with the Rebels in town the day before the senior Munster final.

Sarsfields are one of two Limerick teams in the Celtic Challenge, comprising of the City and West Divisions. After picking up just one point in the group stages, they rebounded in style in the knockout stages with wins over Dublin and Kilenny outfits.

That was enough to set up a rematch with North Cork in the final. The Leesiders were 4-21 to 3-15 winners when they met earlier in the competition.

North Cork are one of four Rebel teams in the competition.

However, Limerick will be hopeful that home advantage will be enough to seal the title and avenge the earlier defeat.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Mayo and Sligo will clash at Markievicz Park in the Corn Michael Feery final, Westmeath face Offaly in the Corn Jerome O’Leary final while Kildare Lilywhites take on Wicklow Gold for Corn Tom Hogan honours.

Galway and Tipperary round out the Saturday action in the final of the Corn Michael Hogan in Abbottstown with the same venue hosting the Corn William Robinson final between Laois and Wicklow Blue on Sunday afternoon.
