The annual Kennedy Cup tournament returns to the University of Limerick this week following a 2-year forced absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2021 competition did take place on a phased basis last year with teams playing each other over several weekends during winter time but the 2022 tournament returns to normal schedule.
The competition kicks off today (Monday 13th June) at 4pm with eight pitches at the University being in use and finishes on Friday afternoon with the Cup final taking place on the UL Bowl at 3.30 pm. As always, there is a huge Limerick interest in the U-14’s tournament with Limerick Desmond, County and District Leagues all being represented.
Limerick Desmond League begin their campaign at 6pm on pitch 2 with a game against Roscommon. Limerick District and County face off in a local derby at 6pm on pitch 7. There is a huge crowd expected for the tournament which has seen so many players graduate to play international football including most recently the likes of Troy Parrott and Jeff Hendrick.
